Quality of Service is a group of technologies used by newer networking protocols to prioritize specific types of traffic on a single network. As some tasks (such as voice or video) are very sensitive to delays caused by excess traffic, QoS systems allow them to take priority over those that aren't as sensitive. This ensures that those high-priority tasks will not be interupted by lower-priority ones, maximizing the utility of the network.
